The Fifty State Quarters Program

Within our nation's history, there was once a time when adults and children alike would possess the desire to find some old coins mixed right in with all of their other pocket change. Back then, you were able to find Buffalo Nickels, Indian Head Pennies, and Coins that contained silver. In order to be completely truthful, today the most that you can hope for is the Wheat Penny on occasion, unless you are just one of the many people that collect the state quarters.

Prior to nineteen ninety nine coin collecting was viewed as a hobby that has lost a whole bunch of its well-known popularity and there are some that will argue that its popularity was steadily declining. During January of nineteen ninety nine, the very first quarter from the State Quarters Program was finally issued and the suddenly, America had fell completely in love with collecting coins all over again.

Once again, adults and kids were checking all of their pocket change to see if they had the newest state quarter. This program was first started with the Delaware quarter being issued in January of nineteen ninety nine and it is scheduled to come to an end during October of two thousand and eight when the Hawaii quarter is finally issued. According to this schedule five quarters are to be released each year, which in the end works out to be one of the new state quarters every ten weeks.

The reason that there is a relatively short period of time between the time that each of the state quarters is issued is because of the program's popularity. This program may be extending beyond two thousand and eight so that all of the quarters are able to be issued with designs that honor Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, the Northern Marianas, the United States Territories of Guam, American Samoa as well as the Virgin Islands are able to be issued.

This extremely popular program within the United States is equally based on a very popular program which was carried out in nineteen ninety two in order to celebrate the one hundred and twenty fifth anniversary of Canada's confederation. Canada was issued on coin each month that particular year in order to commemorate each of the ten provinces and the two territories. Today, it would need to be a thirteenth month programs because Canada now has three territories, since nineteen ninety nine when Nunavut became a territory.

Before the fifty state quarters programs was decided upon, there were some other suggestions on the Canada One Twenty Five Programs created rounds around the numismatic world. There was one suggestion that recommended that there were special half dollars issued in order to commemorate each state.
